I’ve always worked with lettering, illustration and textile.
After a BA Degree in Graphics/Illustration, I worked as a freelance illustrator for some years, then feeling a need for more tactile quality, trained to restore antique oriental rugs.
Elements of this background, and also the influence of growing up surrounded by my dad Alex’s hand-cut lettering, are I think evident in my present work which combines words with paint and collage. I’m interested in exploring the interaction between calligraphy, textile and image, and I like to use words about our relationship with the Earth.
I also work on commemoration and memorial books for clients such as Tewkesbury Abbey and other Cotswold churches and the National Trust.
